Design Thoughts:
- The style and colors of the image repeat, creating consistency throughout the card.
- The font is easy to read and varies in size and boldness.
- The image extends to both sides of the card, giving it a theme.
- The spacing focuses on the most important information.
Photoshop Elements Used:
- Artboard
- Layers for each flower and the stem
- Gradient background
- Text boxes for information
- Sunflower taken from pinterest.com
Design Thoughts:
- This is a picture of my mother and her only sister. It was a pretty worn polaroid and she asked if I could touch it up for her.
- I wanted to keep the integrity of the image while bringing out more colors and touching up the faces.
Photoshop Elements Used:
- Clone stamp tool
- Quick mask layers to brighten eyes
- Levels and curves layers
- Healing brush tool
Design Thoughts:
- This is part of a poem that I love by Stricklan Gillian. I wanted to incorporate the vintage feel of a mother reading to her children with a playful, youthful font.
- The typography is placed to create the feel of wrapping around the image.
- The image is cropped so that the faces and the book are the focus.
Photoshop Elements Used:
- Hue/saturation layers
- Type (Chasing Embers by The Branded Quotes on dafont.com)
- Border added with paint
- Picture from pinterest.com
Design Thoughts:
- This is a play on some classic reminder strategies created by combining sticky notes, a chalkboard feel to hint at school, and a finger and a string.
- The fonts are both chunky and have a handwritten feel.
- The purpose is to encourage students to work on applying for graduation and discourage procrastination.
Photoshop Elements Used:
- Layers for hand, chalkboard, frame, hand, seal and text
- Pen tool used to edit and fill backgrounds
- Fonts downloaded from dafont.com and all images taken from public domains
- Hue, saturation, opacity and contrast adjusted
Design Thoughts:
- Both the background and the style used on the text bring out texture and give the image dimension.
- The text is meant to catch the eye and be the main focal point.
- The color scheme focuses around the red background and all of the elements compliment this.
Photoshop Elements Used:
- Style layers for text (Merry Christmas by Mans Greback from dafont.com)
- Pen tool, hue/saturation layer, levels layer all used on image
- Wallpaper taken from public domain and adjusted to fit color scheme
Design Thoughts:
- My mom has almost no pictures of her as a baby, and this one was pretty beaten up. I decided to add some color and touch it up for her, but I exaggerated the colors enough to give it an artistic feel.
Photoshop Elements Used:
- Clone stamp tool to remove blemishes and wearing
- Layers to add color and adjust brightness and contrast
Design Thoughts: This picture was taken on Thanksgiving in my parents' backyard. My grandparents, who can be found in the center of the photo, had 8 children. This is the first time my entire family has been together in over 5 years and we wanted to commemorate the occasion. I decided to edit the photo as a Christmas present for them.
Photoshop Elements Used:
- Crop tool
- Hue/saturation, brightness/contrast, and levels layers
- Clone stamp and healing tools
- Layer masks
Design Thoughts:
-When my husband and I found out we were expecting our first little one, I wanted to find a way to shout it to the world. This felt appropriate.
- The pumpkins are the focus of the image, and I added the mustache, lips and pacifier to drive home our message but made them slightly opaque to fit the watercolor feel.
- I cut, copied and pasted the leaves and adjusted the sizes and directions to create a frame of sorts. The image also uses the Rule of Thirds, with something meaningful in every third.
- The font was made using colors from the leave, adding repetition. The words also overlap, mimicking the proximity of the pumpkins.
Photoshop Elements Used:
- Selection tool for leaves, mustache, lips, pacifier and pumpkins
- Layers
- Font downloaded from dafont.com
- All images taken from pinterest.com
Design Thoughts:
- I wanted to create a quirky Christmas Party invite to match my quirky family (and because reminders are very necessary for them).
- Everything is aligned in the center and build off the chimney and Santa.
- I love to use slightly muted colors, and the fonts felt festive and complementary.
- The repetition of soft lines is found throughout the circles, the frame, and the snow.
Photoshop Elements Used:
- Layers, hue/saturation adjustments
- Font downloaded from dafont.com
- Image found on pinterest.com
